Texas A&M named Top Pitching Staff in the Nation

2012 has been another quality year for pitching in college baseball.  There are have been several great pitching staffs that have produced tremendous results.  In 2011 we introduced the InsidePitching.com National Pitching Staff of the Year award to recognize the top staff in the country for their regular season result.   In choosing the top pitching staff, we look at several factors.  The most common and at times over used metric is earned run average.  We also examine where each team ranks nationally in hits per nine, walks per nine, strikeouts per nine, WHIP (walks + …

Wake Forest named Pitching Staff of the Week

As the 2012 college baseball season has wrapped up many teams were looking to make a push for conference tournaments, regional bids, and regional seeding.  In some cases teams were in must win situations to keep their post season hopes alive and the Wake Forest pitching staff answered that call this past week.  The Demon Deacon pitching staff helped lead Tom Walters club to a 4-0 week with a midweek contest against Charlotte and a surprising weekend sweep of Clemson.

UNC named National Pitching Staff of the Week

With only one more week to go in the college baseball regular season things are heating up both in the air and on the mound.  This previous week had some pitching staffs really making it tough on opposing hitters.  The Missouri Valley Conference had two staffs in Evansville and Illinois State that put up great numbers with the Purple Aces allowing four earned runs in four games and the Redbirds giving up just 2 runs in three games.  But, this week’s pick for National Pitching Staff of the Week comes from the Atlantic Coast Conference …

Pitching Staff of the Year Award Preview

As we approach the last two weeks of the college baseball regular season we are nearing the announcement of our 2012 InsidePitching.com National Pitching Staff of the Year.  This award is based on the regular season performance by not just one individual, but the collective effort of an entire pitching staff.  Criteria include wins, saves, earned run average, strikeouts, walks, and hits allowed among others.  Last years winner of our inaugural award was the Virginia Cavilers and pitching coach Karl Kuhn.  This year’s collection of schools is once again stellar and has dominated on the …

Arkansas State named Pitching Staff of the Week

The InsidePitching.com National Pitching Staff of the Week Award has yet to see a repeat winner and that trend will continue as we add a new team and conference to the list.  For the Week of April 30th to May 6th the Arkansas State Red Wolves from the Sun Belt conference edged out the Ohio State Buckeyes as this weeks top pitching staff.  With no midweek action, the Red Wolves welcomed the University of South Alabama to town for a conference three game series.  After the three day contest Arkansas State would sweep the series …

Florida Gulf Coast named Top Pitching Staff for Week

The InsidePitching.com National Pitching Staff of the Week award will make it’s first trip to the state of Florida for the 2012 season as Florida Gulf Coast put together a great weekend of pitching against conference opponent Kennesaw State.  Without a midweek game, the FGC pitching staff was stacked for the weekend series and it showed as they allowed just three runs ending the series with a Sunday shutout.  The weekend series started with a 5-2 win for Florida Gulf Coast as they got a complete game from Ricky Knapp who improved his season record …

Valparaiso earns National Pitching Staff of the Week

The week of April 16th in college baseball finds us a new InsidePitching.com National Pitching Staff of the Week.  The award need not travel far as last weeks winner in Purdue which is located in West Lafayette, Indiana is just a mere 80 miles from this weeks pitching staff at Valparaiso University.  The Crusader pitching staff put together a tremendous week as they went 3-1 against a pair of in-state rivals.  Their week started with a 16-inning affair with Indiana State and finished with a three game sweep of Butler.

Purdue named National Pitching Staff of the Week

In what is being considered the dream season for the Purdue Baseball Team, wins are piling up as well as awards.  Known for its explosive offense, the Boilers have been winning of late with very strong pitching.  This past week, the Purdue pitching staff allowed just six runs in four games earning them our National Pitching Staff of the Week Award.  This marks the first Big Ten team to earn our award this year.

Belmont earns National Pitching Staff of the Week

Week eight of the college baseball season brings about a new National Pitching Staff of the Week Award in the Belmont University Bruins.  The Belmont pitching staff helped their club to a 4-0 week including a midweek win at Austin Peay and a conference sweep of South Carolina Upstate.  Game one of the week started on the road as the Bruins traveled to an always offensive ballpark at Austin Peay.  The Bruins used six pitchers to notch the 6-2 victory as Dan Ludwig recorded his first victory of the season.  The six Bruin pitchers combined …

LSU named National Pitching Staff of the Week

The LSU pitching staff came into the week with a big challenge ahead of itself.  Take on in state foe Louisiana Lafayette and then match up with the #3 ranked Arkansas Razorbacks.  It what was a highly anticipated match up, the Tigers staff held serve as LSU went 4-0 on the week gaining a huge sweep of Arkansas and earning the InsidePitching.com National Pitching Staff of the Week Award.  The midweek started off right as LSU employed the all staff approach sending ten pitchers to the mound to shutout Louisiana Lafayette.  Joe Broussard picked up …
